FEAR FACTOR
(Isa 41:10) “Fear thou not; for I am with
thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will
help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
In Turin Italy, Ernesto Cataldi, age 77 was
found apparently lifeless in his bed. He was pronounced dead. However, as they
placed him in a coffin he stirred and asked what was happening. As they were
explaining, he died of fright. Fear is a reality. At times it can be strong
enough even to kill. There are many situations through which it can come. A
doctor’s diagnosis, an unexpected accident, a sudden unexplainable pain, a
pink slip in the paycheck or an unexpected disaster are just a few of the
problems we may have to face. Of course I could go on, but it is obvious already
that trouble can come in many forms and in many ways. Are you prepared? Would
you be able to face that situation? In a time of fear this is a verse we all
need. Isaiah, speaking for God, relates how involved God is willing to be in our
time of fear. First there is the
PRESENCE OF GOD
“I am with thee”
It is amazing to consider the God of the
universe is interested enough to come and be with His children. “If God be for
us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31) The presence of God alone is more than
enough to conqueror any and every foe. It matters not if they be spiritual or
emotional, physical or intellectual. To have God’s presence in time of trouble
is to experience a victory all on it’s own. Just think of it. You don’t have
to face even the worst nightmare by yourself. God is ready to go through it with
you. “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah” (Psa
46:7) Do you know God’s presence today in your life? If so, rejoice but if not
ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and be your Savior. Receive Him into your
heart and know what Jesus promised, “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the
end of the world. (Mat 28:20) Along with His presence consider the
PROTECTION OF GOD
“I am thy God”
Here Isaiah mentions not only the personal
relationship guaranteed to those who trust God, but His personal involvement. He
is their God. He is on their side. God is ready to take up their cause. He is
ready to stand side by side with His own. “I will never leave thee not forsake
thee.” (Heb 13:5) Not only does God stand with us. He personally commits
Himself to our need. No problem is too great, no situation too hard for Him. He
does not promise that it will not be difficult or hard, but He does say He will
help. “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt
glorify me.” (Psa 50:15) What help do you need today? Take it to Him and let
Him show you His answer. Surround yourself with His protection no matter what
your situation. Then there is the
POWER OF GOD
“I will strengthen thee, I will help thee”
The strengthening of God is what helps the
believer to be courageous and brave; God’s help is found in His support. He
strengthens the weak knees and calms the racing heart. He provides peace in the
midst of the storm and encouragement in the face of every danger. “Behold, I
am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? (Jer
32:27) How we need His help in time of fear and trouble. You may be going
through that dark valley today or who knows it could be in the near future. The
omnipotent God, the same God who created the universe will help you through. Are
you feeling weak and helpless? God says, “My grace is sufficient, my strength
is made perfect in your weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9) Rest assured God is there and
He is able. Finally there is the
PROMISE OF GOD
“I will uphold thee”
To hold up or to hold fast is the idea of the
word ‘uphold’. God will give the ability to stand in the face of fear and
anxiety. He is faithful to His promises. Paul said, “For all the promises of
God in Him (that is Christ) are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by
us.” (2 Cor 1:20) Not one promise of God will ever go unfulfilled. When God
says He will…He will. In Him there is mercy and grace to help in time of need.
With the Psalm writer we cry out, “Show us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy
salvation.” (Psa 85:7) Have you cried out to Him today? Have you placed that
difficulty or problem into His hands? He’s calling all of us today to His
throne of grace. Along with abundant mercy and grace consider His love. A love
that surpasses all understanding. The length and breadth, depth and height is
unfathomable (Eph 3:18, 19). We are secure in God.
An elderly lady, trembling all over, came and
sat down in a police station. She began reading a book. When the police asked
her why she was there she said, “I was at home reading this mystery book and
became so frightened I decided to finish reading it under police protection.”
We might chuckle, but when we have fears remember this. The presence, the
protection, the power and the promises of God are all ours in those difficult
times. God bless.
