August 1998GODS WORK FOR BELIEVERS(2 Cor 1:21,22) Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. Perhaps you have seen or heard of the craze in some Rock Concerts. It seems there are some who throw themselves out into the crowd, expecting the crowd to catch them and pass them on from one group to another. I heard of a young man, who jumped, but they failed to catch him and he hit his head on the floor, instantly breaking his neck. That man suffered paralysis and is in a wheelchair today. The crowd had good intentions when he jumped, they didnt mean to drop him. He was completely confident, but tragedy resulted in spite of their good intentions. If we were to abandon ourselves to God, does that mean we take our chances? Yes, but our well being is guaranteed by God himself. In other words, we can be completely confident in His ability to take care of us. More important however is the fact that it is absolutely essential if we are to accomplish His will and be prepared for eternity with Him. Here are four ways God meets our needs and prepares us for eternity at the same time. THE BELIEVERS ANCHOR (21) God gives foundation. If there was ever a need today this is it. The world has lots of promises, but very few assurances. God offers a real foundation. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ, (1 Cor 3:11) "one foundation" It is the base upon which the believer rests. It alone is true and lasting. Apart from that foundation we may be tossed and turned with every wind or doctrine, every difficulty and problem causing anxiety or despair. God does not want that for us. (Heb 6:19) says, with reference to Gods promises and His confirmation, to believers "which hope we have as an anchor of the soul " We can confidently rest on the solid, eternal foundation of Jesus, the Anchor for the believers life. THE BELIEVERS ANNOINTING (21) Anointing, as seen in the scripture, is for a number of reasons: for healing of the sick, burial for the dead, or separation for a divine purpose as it is used here. God has given us an outpouring of His Holy Spirit to separate us to Himself and give insight to His special plan for our lives. (1 Cor 2:9,10) The anointed believer is a divinely guided child of God. His anointing is also His empowering. (Zech 4:6) "Not by might or by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord" The Spirit of God works in the hearts and lives of the anointed believer. His anointing gives us a knowledge of His desire for our lives now and a glimpse of what is waiting in the future. Have you experienced Gods anointing power in your life? THE BELIEVERS ASSURANCE (22) A seal in scripture is a mark of ownership. (1 Cor 6:19,20) " Ye are not your own, ye are bought with a price." Not only is it a seal of ownership, but it is also a seal of confirmation. I have received Christ, I belong to Him and He belongs to me. I am His and He is mine. As Peter says, we are indeed a peculiar people. Note what Paul says in the epistle to the Ephesians. (Eph 1:13), speaking of those who receive Christ as Savior, "We are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise". (Eph 4:30) tells us we are "sealed unto the day of redemption." From the moment you are saved until the day Christ takes you to be with Himself, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit of God. Nothing can happen to you that He does not allow. No one can steal you away from Him or snatch you out of His hand. The seal of the Spirit confirms that I belong to the King of the ages, and am as eternal as He. THE BELIEVERS AUTHENTIFICATION (22) An earnest is a pledge. The Spirits presence in the believer is a pledge and a foretaste of that which is to come. Gods promise of eternal life, His presence with us and His pledge of Himself is part of our preparation for eternity. The Bible has a great deal to say about Heaven, yet there is so much more for us to learn in the future. In (Eph 1:14) the Holy Spirit is said to be the earnest of our inheritance, our guarantee of being co-heirs together with Christ. What a wonderful hope we have in Jesus. Are you certain of these promises? I trust you are, but if not put your trust in Christ today and see Him work His plan in your life. If you were driving down the highway at 65 miles per hour and a car suddenly pulled in front of you, youd automatically hit the brakes. But, what if they didnt work? Failure could mean serious injury or even death. Trust in Christ never fails. It is the object of our trust that makes all the difference for now and eternity. Jesus is our certainty. He will never fail. God bless. |
