yball.gif (942 bytes) WHERE?

BROOKLYN BIBLE CHAPEL is located at Sixth, Highland and Jack Street in Brooklyn, Maryland. From Ritchie Highway turn east at Jack Street and drive six blocks, or from Patapsco Avenue, turn south at Sixth Street and bear right at the fork to the Chapel.

yball.gif (942 bytes) WHAT?

THE CHAPEL is the meeting place of an assembly of Christians meeting in the Lord's Name alone. This assembly is not affiliated with any denomination, nor with any of the so called "tongue" or "holiness" groups, and has no sympathy with the many false and fanatical cults so prevalent in these last days.

yball.gif (942 bytes) WHY?

THE REASON for this undenominational stand is a sincere desire to preach and practice all that God has revealed in His Word for His people during this present church-age. There is no desire to separate from other true believers, but from those things which are contrary to the will and Word of God. Thus a clean scriptural fellowship is provided, here all true Christians may enjoy their spiritual privileges and assume their responsibilities.

yball.gif (942 bytes) WHO?

A HEARTY WELCOME is cordially extended to all true, born-again believers to meet and fellowship with us in the things of the Lord. We recognize but one body and one membership that of the Body of Christ, the true Church. The unsaved are not only invited but urged to attend the services at the Chapel where they will hear only the true word of God and the soul-saving gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

(Please note. You can place your mouse pointer over the  following verse references and see the verse on your screen. If the verses are removed before you finish reading, slightly move the pointer, staying within the blue box, and they will continue to display.)

yball.gif (942 bytes) THE NAME WE TAKE

We believe that the substitution of any human name for that of our Lord Jesus Christ is derogatory to His name which has been given the highest place in glory (Phil. 2:9-11Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.). Therefore we bear only His name, and own only such names as are given to believers in the New Testament, as: brethren, believers, saints, Christians, etc., any of which satisfactorily describes and belongs to all true believers in Christ.

yball.gif (942 bytes) THE GOSPEL WE PREACH

theway2.gif (9190 bytes)

We stand for and proclaim constantly, the old-fashioned, soul-saving Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, absolutely untainted by any modernistic teachings, and errors. This gospel we believe to be alone, "the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Rom. 1:16); and is defined in  I Cor. 15:14 as: "Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, He was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the scriptures."

The true heart reception of this message of salvation, and through it of Christ, as Savior and Lord, will alone deliver from sin and hell, and bring the believing sinner into possession of eternal life, the forgiveness of sins and peace with God.  (Rom. 10:9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.; John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.; Acts 13:38-39Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. ).

yball.gif (942 bytes) THE ORDINANCES WE OBSERVE

We believe Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, left two ordinances for His people during this age. These are to be faithfully practiced during His absence: BAPTISM by immersion for true believers upon their confession of faith in Him (Mat. 28:19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:; Acts 8:36-39And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing., 18:8And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.; Rom. 6:1-5What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:). THE BREAKING OF BREAD each first day of the week in remembrance of the Lord (Mat. 26:28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. ; Acts 2:42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. ; Acts 20:7And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. ; I Cor. 11:23-26For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.). To the Lord's Supper we welcome all (and only those) who are truly born again, clean in life and sound in doctrine.

yball.gif (942 bytes) THE TRUTHS WE BELIEVE

The absolute accuracy of the word of God, the Bible, It's verbal inspiration and all-sufficiency as the Christians rule of life and practice (II Tim 3:16-17All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.).

The one true God, a trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, equal in all things as to eternity, omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience (Mat. 28:19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: ; II Cor. 13:14The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.).

The virgin birth of Christ (Luke 1:26-35); His absolute sinlessness (II Cor. 5:21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.; I Peter 2:22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:); His vicarious death (Rom. 5:6-8For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.); His bodily resurrection from the dead (Rom. 4:25Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.; Luke 24:36-40And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.); His visible ascension (Luke 24:50-51And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.); His present enthronement (Heb. 1:3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;); His High Priestly ministry and advocacy (Heb. 7:25-26Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;; I John 2:1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:).

The rapture of the church at the coming of Christ in the air (I Cor. 15:51-57Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. ; I Thes. 4:13-18But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.); the revelation of Christ at His coming to the earth prior to the setting up of His Millennial kingdom (II Thes. 1:6-10 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.); the personal literal reign of Christ over this earth for 1,000 years (I Cor. 15:24-28Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.; Rev. 19:11-20:6).

The total depravity of man through the fall of Adam in Eden's garden (Gen. 3: Rom. 5:12-19Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.). His absolute helplessness to please God in his unregenerate condition (Rom. 3:9-19What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. , 8:8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.).

The love of God to the entire world (John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.).

The necessity of the new birth. through the word and Spirit of God (John 3:3-7Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.; I Peter 1:23-25Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.).

The uselessness of human works and merit to obtain salvation (Rom. 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.; Eph. 2:8-9For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.; Tit. 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;).

The finished work of Christ through which complete atonement for sin has been effected (John 19:30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.; Heb. 9:26For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself; 10:12But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;).

Salvation by grace alone, through faith (Eph. 2-8-9For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.; Acts 16:30-31And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.).

The efficacy of the blood of Christ, apart from which there can be no salvation (Heb. 9:22And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.; Eph. 1:7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;; Col. 1:20And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. ; I John 1:7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.)

The complete justification of the believer in Christ (Acts 13:38,39Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.; Rom, 5:1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:),

The present assurance of salvation (I John 5:11-13And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.).

The present possession of eternal life by every true believer (John 5:24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.; 6:47Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.).

The eternal security of the genuine believer (John 10:28-30And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.; Rom. 8:35-39Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.).

The immediate entry into a literal hell of every soul dying without Christ (Luke 16:19-31); the resurrection of all such to stand before the Great White Throne of Judgment (John 5:28,29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.; Rev. 20:11-13And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.); the consignment of all such into a lake of fire forever and ever (Mat. 25:46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.; Rev. 20:14-15And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.).

The resurrection of all believers at the coming of Christ and the review and reward of their life and works (Luke 14:14And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.; John 5:28-29Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation; Rom. 14:10-12But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. ; I Cor. 3:11-15For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.; 15:22-23For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.)

Separation from sin and the world by the Christian and a godly life to the glory of God (II Cor. 6:14-17Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.; Tit. 2:11-14 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.).

(These we believe to be the main doctrines of the scriptures; however, we accept all that is taught in the Word of God.)

yball.gif (942 bytes) THE COMMISSION WE OBEY

We believe the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. to be binding upon every Christian and to be carried out by all in dependence upon God- This includes the carrying of the Gospel message to young and old, at home and abroad, by every possible means. Especially do we realize the need of implanting in the minds and heads of the young the Word of Life; therefore we welcome all children and their parents to our Sunday School where nothing but the Truth is taught by born-again, consistent-living teachers.

yball.gif (942 bytes) BIBLE STUDY AND PRAYER

The study of the Word of God finds a definite place not only in the Bible Class but also at the weeknight service. and in special Bible Classes during the year. Prayer is realized as the necessary ingredient of every meeting; special time being set apart for it.

yball.gif (942 bytes) CHURCH ORDER

We believe in the priesthood of all believers whereby all are free, as led by the Spirit. to engage in worship to the Father (I Peter 2:5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.; Heb. 10:19-22Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.).

We do not believe in Christian women exercising authority or leadership in the local church, in administration, preaching, praying or teaching in mixed audience. However, we fully believe that qualified Christian women have a wonderful sphere of usefulness among their own sex and with children (I Cor. 14:34-35Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.; I Tim. 2:11-12 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.).

We believe leadership is to be exercised by Elders, spiritual men, well known and approved by the Assembly. We also recognize the service of Deacons in the operation and conduct of Church business. (I Tim. 5:17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.; Tit. 1:5-9 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. ; I Tim 3:8-13Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus),

We believe in the regular systematic setting aside of the Lord's portion, and the liberal supporting of the Lord's servants and service through the freewill offerings of God's people. both collectively and individually. (I Cor. 9:14Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.; 16:1-2Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.; II Cor. 9).

(Rom. 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;; 6:23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.; 10:9,10That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.; 10:13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.).
